A Little Equation for a Setting an Example

Do you want to set an example for other students that points them to Jesus? Perhaps you think, “If only I were more popular, I could show more people how great Jesus is.” Paul says that you don’t need popularity for others to notice Christ in you.

“…you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.” 1 Thessalonians 1:6-7.

The equation for setting an example of godliness is:

God’s word + affliction + joy = example.

You don’t have to be the one everyone listens to before you can sound your voice. People will listen to you after watching you joyfully embrace God’s promises in the midst of  your trials. When they ask you why you are happy when most people are sad, you will tell them that the Holy Spirit gives more joy than good circumstances!
